Farmington Country Club is an exceptional space rich in history and fit for weddings both big and small! Perfect for couples who are attracted to the charm of Charlottesville’s wine country, but still crave an elevated ballrom style event space. From the Blue Ridge Mountain views over the golf course to the room designed by Thomas Jefferson himself, this is a wedding venue that knows how to craft a legendary time for your guests. Not sure what this could mean for your wedding vision? As a Charlottesville wedding photographer and videographer, I am lucky enough to tour venues all across this beautiful city. Here is everything that makes a Farmington Country Club wedding downright magical!

1625 Country Club Circle, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901
Farmington Country Club is a venue with a history that dates back before the official start of America. Originally settled by the Monacan Indian Nation, the land was sold in 1735 before landing in the hands of Charles Lewis, a relative of George Washington himself. While he never lived on the land, he cultivated it for about a decade before selling it in 1758. This is when the construction era really took off! The new owners, Francis and Sarah Jerdone, ordered the building of a mill, a blacksmith shop, and a tannery.
The first manor was built in 1785 by George and Martha Divers, who were close friends of Thomas Jefferson. From here on out, Jefferson became a frequent visitor of the home and even designed some of the later editions, such as the octagonal room (appropriately called the Jefferson Room) and the two-story dependency wing. Throughout the pages of history, it passed through a number of owners before finally being purchased by the Farmington Country Club in 1979. Today, it stands as a luxury venue ready to tell the next chapter of your love story!

Farmington Country Club is a full-service venue that knows how to spoil you as soon as you book the venue! The morning of your wedding, they will show you to their get-ready suites where you can prepare for your day. What I love the most about these rooms is the colonial decor that stays true to the heart of the venue. Once you have all your hair and makeup on, you can relax on the vintage-inspired furniture, giving you a great option for individual portraits before your ceremony!
Farmington Country Club does offer a number of indoor ceremony spots (we’ll get to those in a sec), but the absolute best spot for your ceremony is outside in the Northern Lawn. The yard is open and verdant with a lush treeline that transforms once fall hits Virginia. While the view might be decoration enough, a greenery arch with blush-colored flowers turns it into a downright dream! Throughout autumn, deep jewel tones look especially stunning here!
Once it’s time for your cocktail hour, your guests will be released up to the Lower Patio, where they can have drinks near the manor. For more casual events, you can easily set up lawn games in this space so your guests can unwind as you take your pictures. The venue can even set up some patio furniture where people can unwind until it’s time for your reception. If you do decide to get out of the Virginia heat for this portion (and who could blame you?!), you can use the Jefferson Room. The octagonal shape, combined with the soft blue walls and crystal chandeliers, is the perfect backdrop for black tie events.

So now that you know this is the perfect venue for you and you’re ready to book, let’s take a quick moment for what’s to come. A truly perfect wedding comes from the understanding of a good budget. There’s of course differing opinions for what it takes to have a good wedding, firstly the goal of the day is for you to celebrate the combining of two lives into one. You can do it on any budget, but on average it is most common to expect to spend between $80,000-$150,000 at this venue, based on a 100–150 guest event:
Estimated Total for 100 Guests:
Low End: ~$80,000
High End: ~$150,000+
Keep in mind these are general ranges and vendor travel, design choices, and guest count will vary the costs.

The ballroom is the most popular option for an indoor reception. This space can hold up to 250 guests, though I would recommend keeping that number around 200 if you want plenty of space for dancing. This room is truly grand, with high ceilings illuminated by crystal chandeliers. The walls are a light shade of olive with crown molding and chair rail. While it does carry that colonial charm, the colors are neutral enough to play into your wedding decor, whether you are working with light blush roses or warm autumnal shades. There’s a baby grand in the corner, as well as a built-in stage with the latest audio and video technology. This room can easily double as a ceremony space in case of inclement weather.
If you are looking for something a little more intimate, you can use the mid-sized Main Dining Room, the open and airy Blue Ridge Room, or the moody, tavern-esque Pine Room. And if you are having trouble finding *the* place, just talk with the venue, and they will help you find one.

As a photographer, I am constantly looking for the best spots for your pictures. Here are my favorite wedding portrait options at Farmington Country Club! When you want to show off your gorgeous gown, the private interior rooms tend to be the best option! The rooms feature large windows that let in plenty of light, and the colonial decor serves as a lovely backdrop. We can also head outside and find some sunny locations in front of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The golf course offers a number of scenic backdrops for your couple’s portraits together. I also recommend taking a few in front of the manor so you can show off this legendary venue! For group portraits, the golf course really does offer the best option here. The land is fairly flat and accessible, plus you have pretty unforgettable views of the mountains everywhere you turn!

I mentioned earlier that Farmington is going to spoil you from the very start of the planning process. Here are some of the many ways:
As a full-service venue, they can take care of the planning process. The Farmington Country Club wedding team can start by getting to the heart of your vision and then go to work making it a reality!
They are going to take care of all the catering. They have an on-site kitchen with exceptional chefs, plus they can work with you to plan the menu well before the day arrives.
Over their long history, they have worked with some of the top vendors around. They can give you recommendations based on the vibe of your wedding.

Since we have touched on everything the venue provides you for your dream day in terms of space, furniture, and support. It is time to think about what happens next? The venue gives you the freedom to bring in your own food from their trusted list, alcohol, and select your own licensed vendors so you can create your uniquely you wedding day.
It would be a major disservice to you as a wedding photographer from Charlottesville to not remind you that the stunning venue is just the starting point, the rest of the magic does not happen without a top shelf vendor team. You will need help designing a timeline for the day, delegating who will execute the timeline tasks and where. Then the wedding day dream look does not happen without the help of a talented HMUA, your florist perfectly executing your epic designs and personal color palette, a experienced catering and dj helping controlling the guest experience of the day, and every tiny add on to be discovered.
After 250+ weddings here is a list of people I know will not let you down;
